The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress WWII Historical Contemporary Romance Volume 1 Tam Francis Books
I love-love-loved this book! The two story lines run parallel to one another--1940s and 1990s--highlighting the similarities and differences in the two eras when it comes to relationships and swing dancing. Then, when the two story lines meet, the book becomes impossible to put down.Tam Francis captures the essence of the teenage girl becoming a woman. She brings the dancing to life with vivid descriptions of the dancers and just enough technical detail of the dance. If you are familiar with swing dancing, you will be able to hear the music and see the dancers as you read. If you like romance novels, the romance is there, but not too much as to turn off non-romance readers (like myself).
All in all, The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress is a delightful read--put it on your Summer reading list!
As one reviewer stated, the Kindle edition had some minor errors (which are fixable), but for me they didn't detract from the readability of this truly enjoyable novel.

The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress WWII Historical Contemporary Romance Volume 1 Tam Francis Books Reviews
Great book! Can't wait to read the next.
Fans of historical fiction will delight in The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress - part historical fiction, part romance story, part amazing escape into the past, author Tam Francis pays homage to both the past and present in this great first novel centered around WWII, swing dancing, first lives and vintage living!
The Girl in the Jitterbug dress is my first vintage fiction read, and now I'm a fan of the genre. I loved the coming of age story and the twining of the two eras. The vintage era is described in such detail and with such connotative words the reader sees the age in vivid detail.
The 1940's slang and rhyming nature of their words was fun to read in "The Girl...", and made me wonder if any of my grandparents spoke to their friends in this way!
The 1990's characters growing interest and love for lots of things vintage, from dance to music, from movies to clothing, etc. was def. something I could relate to! And that interest was fostered through Tam Francis' book!
And each of the main character's individual stories, and their relationships, their highs and lows, were written in such a way that I cared about them as I was reading this story!
A big book (app. 400 pages); some spelling and grammar mistakes, but a page-turner!!
This was a fun historical romance with unique parallel story lines. Overall, it was definitely an excellent read that I would recommend to others. My only criticism involves the swing dancing scenes. While I enjoyed the face-paced swing competitions, I kind of got lost at the classes and practices. It was a little too technical for me and it just got me anxious to "get to the good parts." An unexpected bonus is that each chapter is named after a song title, so I got a swinging soundtrack with the story!
I enjoyed the story but agree with other reviews. It needed a lot more editing. Having been forewarned, I was able to overlook this and really did enjoy the story. I would, however, add that you should probably have a love of jitterbug/swing dance otherwise you may not like this story. My mother was single during WWII and won quite a few jitterbug contests. She taught me how to jitterbug in our kitchen when I was about 18. This is probably why I was so interested in this story -- it was a way of looking at the WWII parts through the eyes of my mom.
I loved it! The author turns the page eloquently through period details examining each character as if she were them. This title features romance, subtle and boisterous kindness, heartfelt human interaction, grace and fun dancing action. The mood is full of fun urgency to dance swing and relive the characters' simplistic and interestingly conflicted lives.
Great for male and female, a little more female. Adult book however, a high school student would enjoy. It took be two chapters to get into and understand the background/characters.
Just ordered the second Hops the Atlantic. I can't wait to read it.
Order for you and your best friend. Great gift.
p.s. You'll want to keep it in your collection simply for the artwork. The cover is beautiful.
