The Gladiator Downfall Age of the Andinna Book 1 eBook Kristen Banet

The Gladiator's Downfall was such a delightful surprise. Before reading TGD, I'd only had exposure to Banet's Kingson series. While I enjoyed the Kingson Pride books, there were times where I felt like the story was a little shallow, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this new series that sounded like an epic fantasy adventure.

Banet does not disappoint. At all.

The Gladiator's Downfall is rich in detail, and Banet really has strong world-building going on. She's created her own races- the Elvasi, the Andinna, and incorporated a few mythological well-knowns (chimera, gryphon). However, she's not just crafting a character that looks a little extraordinary.

She's developed a social system, a language, magical abilities/rules, and a historical background for her races. Throughout the book, we're continually learning more about the Andinna culture, and, like Mave, I was eagerly soaking up every drop of information thrown my way. Her creations are fascinating, and we only just scratch the surface of what's there to discover. Like Mave, we're starting from the very beginning, so our knowledge of the world, of the Andinna, grows along with her.

Banet's characters are as well-rounded as her world. Mave has real depth to her: an emotional backstory, a strong facade and even stronger core of feeling, wicked fighting skills, and a desperate need to be wanted, to belong to her people. I really like her because of her imperfections. She can be rash, aggressive, violent, and untrusting; she's truly a product of her environment. However, as her environment is changed, so is she. She's a dynamic character who is surely going to be amazing when she's finished.

The men are interesting as well. Matesh and Rainev are the ones we get closest to, and they both develop a palpable chemistry with Mave. I also enjoy the family bond that Banet's created between them and the rest of the Shadow Company. Her characters connect with and rely on each other, and it's delightful to see the banter, the arguments, and the support they give one another. With a strong core of men behind her, Mave is going to really take flight (hopefully literally). Banet is setting up a situation where she will not only become better because of them, but where Mave has the opportunity to leave her mark on each of the men as well, a reciprocal relationship that makes everyone into a bit of the hero.

In terms of steam, I'd say this is a slow burn. We get some teasing, we get some action, but the emphasis is definitely on the story-telling, and it shows. The s*x, when it happens, is meaningful and well-done rather than being rushed or thrown in just to keep the more eager audiences hooked.

Overall, there are just so many things done right in The Gladiator's Downfall that I just don't have the time to list them all. I'm so glad that I saw a recommendation for this book. My only regret is that I read it so soon after its publish date since it means that much longer of a wait for book two.

The Gladiator Downfall Age of the Andinna Book 1 eBook Kristen Banet Reviews

Fantasy. Rh. Slowburn. Action Packed. High Body Count. Mave as been inslave all her life. Used to win a war. Used to kill others of her species. Used for her body. And she has SURVIVED. When two unique Andinnans are put on her team, maybe she will start to actually LIVE. A DM's brainchild of a story. The world building is phenomenon, the characters are substantial, and the bad a**ery is exactly what you'd expect from a Kristen Banet story. I very much loved this book and an extremely excited to read the next one. Would recommend for fantasy lovers even paranormal.
This is the start of a new series for Ms. Banet, and she has made it uniquely her own. Multi-layered and complex, we learn about just what an Andinna gladiator is, and the world they live in. This new world and its inhabitants are multi-layered and complex, which makes for an intriguing story. This is most definitely NOT the same old story with new names attached. If you have enjoyed reading her other series, you most likely will love this one, too. Ms. Banet has proven yet again how versatile she is in her story telling. I highly recommend it.
I would give this one star except the spelling, grammar and editing is quite good!!!!
Other than that, this story is a mashup of Auryn Hadleys Rise of the Iliri and Wolf of Oberhame series’ with minor changes!
It is boring, stagnant. There is minimal progression of the story at the half way point, still the female, who’s been a gladiator for 900 or so years and two males who got paired with her. If this story has a progressive point it isn’t getting there any time soon.
I received an ARC for my honest review of this book (this is my first one). I love it. It was absolutely fantastic and intricate and leaves you wanting more. The world building is amazing. The fact this is a slow-medium burn RH we are left wondering who exactly will be in her harem. But all of the possibilities revealed so far are fantastic. The potential men in her harem are learning to trust her, and she, them. Mave is a brutal killer and I absolutely love her for it. She is what the sands made her and so much more. You hate the antagonists with reason and hope for bloody murder. The protagonist isn't perfect but she feels real and has dimension. I am so excited for the next the book in this series. I absolutely loved everything about this. I want to know these characters and they feel so real. This is something I will come back to time and again.
I have been a big fan of Kristen 's series but I was NOT prepared for this one. This is the kind of book that leaves you with a book hangover and every other book MC looks weak. If you are into Epic fantasy this is the book for you! Even if you are not you should read it. The world building alone is absolutely Amazing - you feel like you are there. The characters she layers in you feel like you know or want to kill - yep prepare for some bloodlust! And the length of the book! Wow - but I was so into it that at the end I still wanted more! Thank you KB for bringing this series into my life - can't wait to follow Have on this journey.
kristen banet you continue to ceasesly amaze with how epic and awesome these words you create this book had dark and light in it in perfect balance and the characters and plot were all epic and awesomely excecuted and the ending of this book left me loving it and hungering for more maeve is even more amazing though its hard to admit becaue all your mcs are amazing in there own way but maeve tops them all or atleast is on top with sawyer ) overall impressions you did outstanding on this new series and i cant wait to see what happens next with maeve and her men and the company overall and to everyone else )
